Scope of the report

The information presented in the following section relates specifically to Bird & Bird LLP.

Certain data points are based solely on our UK operations, in line with the requirements of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), under whose jurisdiction we operate. As Bird & Bird LLP is registered in the UK and files its accounts with Companies House, our reporting reflects the structure and regulatory obligations of this legal entity.

Basis of preparation

This performance section is based on our financial year from 1st May 2024 to 30th April 2025.

Due to gaps in some data, certain assumptions have been made. The methodologies used are aligned with the most appropriate standards available at the time of publishing this report. Please note that there may be exemptions in the data and published information, where this applies, it has been stated.

We are continually reviewing the data we have available and are committed to enhancing our disclosures in future years. This ongoing review process ensures that we can provide more comprehensive and accurate information over time.

As this is our first report of its kind, year-on-year comparisons are generally not included, except for our carbon emission and energy consumption reporting. We are committed to publishing an annual Responsible Business Report, and from next year onward, we will include data for two consecutive years to enable meaningful comparisons.

Each section has a footnote for the data presented. How we are assessing the implications and managing these topics is covered in our Materiality section.

Reporting standards

We have sought to incorporate best practices to align our reporting with recognised global standards wherever possible.

This mainly includes the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and those set out in the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). The information reported focuses exclusively on the material topics relevant to our firm, as outlined in the materiality section. Where reporting to a particular standard has been used, this has been referenced for ease in the GRI, ESRS & UN SDG index section.

Audit statement

Our internal review is overseen by our Audit Committee, ensuring rigorous scrutiny and governance.

Additionally, an independent audit is conducted by Deloitte, who provide reasonable assurance on our financial statements, conducted in line with International Standards on Auditing (UK) (ISAs (UK)). This audit includes a comprehensive review of our carbon and energy reporting which is also covered within our financial statements. All other statements made within this report are excluded from this audit.

Assurance statement

Our Scope 1, Scope 2, and selected Scope 3 emissions have received independent limited assurance for the reporting period, in accordance with the International Standard for Assurance Engagements (ISAE 3000).

This assurance was conducted by ERM CVS, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our reported data.
